TECHNOLOGY IN FOCUS

Empowering Education Through Technology

Technology is a catalyst and dynamic pathway for lifelong learning. Stafford Public Schools will create equitable access to technology-rich learning environments for all staff and students.  All learners will become proficient in current and emerging technologies preparing them for the challenges and demands of a rapidly changing digital world.

Our world requires that students be collaborative, empowered, self-assessing, adaptable, and computational thinkers. Age-appropriate technology will be infused to continually improve the teaching and learning process.  Students will use a variety of research tools to access, evaluate, and effectively apply information to authentic tasks.  By applying 21st Century Skills and improving technological and digital literacy, students will better understand their role in the local and global community. Students and staff will be responsible and ethical digital citizens.

Stafford is committed to the development of technology competencies across all content areas and grade levels, aligned with national ISTE standards.  All staff will participate in ongoing professional development to support current technologies, technological and digital literacy, innovative thinking, productivity, efficiency, and effective communication and collaboration.  Educators will use technology-integrated instruction and learning activities to promote mastery of the Connecticut Core Standards.  Students will participate in online adaptive assessments to measure their growth.

Stafford recognizes the value of technology and strives to maintain and upgrade a robust and functional infrastructure to provide a rich educational experience for all.  The district will continually promote communication and collaboration through the effective use of technology.  Technology brings the world to students and empowers students to celebrate and share their learning with the world.

STAR Testing

STAR testing is administered to students in grades 2-12 in reading and mathematics.  Universal screenings are delivered three times each academic year (fall, winter, and spring).  Results are utilized to support student learning and target students for academic intervention supports.

Invention Convention

The 2020 Stafford Invention Convention is currently underway for all grade 5 students and students in the Stafford Middle School after school computer club.  Students will be presenting to judges on Tuesday, March 24 with an evening reception for parents and the community at 6:30.  We hope to see you there!

During the 2018-19 school year, all Grade 5 students and teachers participated in the Invention Convention for the first time in Stafford.  Mrs. Erickson along with our classroom teachers modeled the engineering design process as students developed and tested prototypes through experimentation. Fifteen finalists were sent to the Connecticut Invention Convention that took place on May 4 at the University of Connecticut. Five of our inventors received awards out of the 1200 inventors throughout the state and one was invited to the National Invention Convention in Michigan. Congratulations to all of our students!

Virtual Learning from Around the World

Our students have spoken to experts from around the world from their classrooms.  This presentation includes the various experts we talked to and the resources they shared with us after our sessions.
